3 things to do before you use new metalware

The simple first-use routine that protects the surface and helps you use the piece as intended.

1. Wash and dry it first

Remove all packing material. Wash with warm water, mild soap and a soft sponge, then rinse and dry immediately.

Before cookware reaches the stove, check its lining and product guidance. If the listing limits the piece to serving, do not cook in it.

2. Use tools that protect the surface

Use wooden or silicone utensils with lined cookware. Metal tools can score or lift a soft tin lining.

Do not store acidic or salty food in unlined brass or copper. Move leftovers to a suitable container after serving.

3. Never store it damp

Dry lids, bowls and plates separately. Once every surface is dry, stack pieces with a soft layer between them if needed.
